The proposal to construct Kaimai Wind Farm, on privately owned farmland on the northern reaches of the Kaimai Ranges, has been included for consideration under Schedule 2 the Fast-track Approvals Bill.
The project, with in-depth analysis, iwi and community consultation dating back to 2005, was assessed by an independent Projects Advisory Group and the Ministers Responsible for Resource Management Reform, Regional Development and Transport.
Kaimai Wind Farm is just one of 149 projects (seven wind energy proposals) deemed to facilitate the delivery of infrastructure and development which will deliver significant infrastructure benefits across New Zealand.
Please note that being listed in Schedule 2 is not a granting of the necessary approvals. Applicants for projects listed in Schedule 2 still have to apply to the Environmental Protection Authority and the Kaimai Wind Farm project will be assessed under the Bill, once enacted.
The Fast-track Approvals Bill is due to be reported back from Select Committee on 18 October 2024. From there, Schedule 2 will be included int the Bill later this year. The Bill is expected to be enacted before the end of 2024.
